How to Build Your Brand Online and with Authenticity 

In this digital world with so much information coming to us at once, it can feel overwhelming to even consider keeping up with it all, much less building your own online presence. You might even wonder if you are entering into this too late. The truth is you are not, and I will tell you why. There is no one just like you on this planet. You are unique and with very special gifts to offer the world. Your business is an extension of your authenticity. The world may (or may not) have seen your business in another form somewhere else. But they haven’t seen it from your perspective.  


Just Be Yourself 

I know that it may seem like I am telling you to do something that one would categorize as “easier said than done” but it is that simple. People enjoy watching real people. They engage more with relatability. Have you watched the accounts on TikTok with a ton of engagement? By and large, they are accounts of real people doing regular things. They are discussing real-to-them topics and having real life interactions and experiences. When we spend too much time trying to be someone or something other than our true selves, it comes across as false and insincere. 


What It Really Means to Be Authentic in Branding 

When you are building a brand, it is not about sharing every detail of your life. But is it about aligning the values and the voice of your business. What are you trying to achieve at its most basic. What do you as a business owner want to communicate with the world? 


Building a Brand That Really Does Feel Like You 

Building a brand that is distinctly you is less about perfection and more about intentionality. Here is a question you can start with: What is your WHY? 

It is most important to be able to answer this question. Even before you design anything at all. What is your why? Why did you start this business? Who do you plan on serving? This answer is your keystone to the whole thing! 

Also, when developing your brand, committing to having consistency is important. Having branded colors, fonts, and tone is going to help you. 


Why It Is Better to Be Authentic 

Being authentic sets you apart from anyone else. In a world of cut and paste, everything, be different. Be authentic to you and to the vision you originally set for your business. On a personal level, I am a yoga teacher as well. I have been teaching for 11 years. When I first received my yoga teacher certification, I tried to teach like other teachers that were “popular” or that inspired me. I realized over time that I was not being true to myself. I was not authentic. Once I realized that and started teaching from who I really was, I started seeing more people coming to my classes and being inspired by me. They resonated with how real I was.  

Think of your brand as an extension of you. Remember your why. How can you be more authentic to your brand and ultimately your clientele?
